STATEMENT OF INTENT

Statement of intent Centre number: 16706                                        Centre name: Harris Academy Chafford Hundred Candidate number: 4279                                    Candidate name: Connie Schofield Brief chosen: Brief 4 - Music video and online You have been given the task of producing a three-minute music video for a protest song* by a fictional band/artist signed to Warner Music Group, and two pages for the working website for the band/artist. How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words)  Product 1 - The Music Video:  One way that I intend to use the theoretical framework to approach a socially conscious, 16-25, middle to upmarket ...

Main Task

Music Video Final Music Video -  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T66TEytSIkg Website Video Outtakes -  https://youtu.be/sPkGWLy0H7Q   Intended evidence: Intertextuality : In both my media products of the 'Music video' and the 'Video outtake' for my website I used intertextual references to help audiences denote the messages behind the products. For instance, the "three minute protest music video" has intertextual links to Michael Jacksons music video of "Black or White. For example, at the end of the video he uses multiple people of different demographics singing the lyrics of the song. It is filmed in front of a plain backdrop and all of the cast merge into each other to protest the idea that "it don't matter if you're black or white", and therefore everyone should be treated equally. Similarly I used this idea at the start of my music video as I also shot a variety of different people of different demographics. I also shot ...

ONLINE CROSS MEDIA PRODUCT - WEBSITE

Website Link  -  https://connieschofield24.wixsite.com/wonder Intended evidence: Video element:  Below you will find examples of what I wanted to include in the video element of the website: Intertextuality : part of my intention with the home page was to include an element of intertextuality that linked to the messages of the Black Lives Matter movement for both production and online. For example, the inclusion of the BLM fist on the website promotes the support to the movement. Furthermore, the convergence of the linked page makes it easier to sign petitions and learn of the movement without having to go and research pages yourself, therefore this makes it more easily accessible for all audiences ages. However, I would have liked to have made a template of my own alike the band logo/album, but couldn't get access to the technology or help I needed to help me achieve this.  Convergence : As well as the inclusion of a linked website to...

NEA Planning Part 3 - Product Style Profile

In this post I am going to be looking into the importance of planning and decision making to create my online  website and music video. I will see how the use of shot lists and storyboards will help me to achieve my aims for my brief. I will then gain feedback from peers to view over my ideas and themes and see whether it is relevant to a 'protest music video'. My media product of a 3 minute protest  music video is mostly narrative based but I also hope for it to include some performative elements of dance to help assist the story. Furthermore, I hope to include all three members of the band in some way, however this may be disrupted  due to covid-19. Shot list: 1. 0.00-0.05- I intend to make my first shot and last shot cyclical to reflect the on going fight for justice which surrounds the black lives matter movement. This shot will most likely be of the band walking to also symbolise the 'march of progress'.  2.  0.05-0.1...

NEA Planning part 4 - Location Information

In this task I will be exploring what locations I will be using for my chosen brief of music video and online. The purpose of this is to justify the use of settings and what makes them significant. First Location: Hadleigh Castle: Address - Castle Lane, Hadleigh, Essex, SS7 2AP One reason why i chose the location of Hadleigh castle to shoot my the dance segment of my video is because I wanted to represent the contrast of outdated views against postmodern ones. For example,  the castle was established around the 1200s where White English kings such as King John and Edward III ruled in parts of England. It represents a time of white supremacy, where integration of ethnicity and race was not at all common. The corrosion of the castle further represents that this idea has collapsed in our current post-modern era, therefore reflecting the black lives matter movement and a growth of a united society in terms of multi-cultural and demographic backgrounds.  Hazards: As I am shoo...

NEA Planning Part 6 - Schedule

NEA Planning Part 6 - Schedule TASK 1 -  Create a calendar that highlights your chosen production/photography/filming dates and activities.  TASK 2 - Why do you think it's important to produce a schedule of activities when working on a production? Name 3 activities you're likely to struggle with? What are you going to do in order to achieve these difficult activities?  One reason why I think it's important to produce a schedule of activities when working on a production is to make sure that you stay on time. For example, it will enable me to make sure that my coursework is handed in on time and up to the standard I would like it to be at. Another important factor of a schedule is to help plan convenient times for cast members and myself so it can be done as efficiently as possible.  One activity I am likely to struggle with is incorporating titles and graphics to my music video. This is because I hope to u...

NEA Planning Part 5 - Casting

Casting  In this post i am going to be casting the main actors and models for my brief on Music Videos and online. The brief states that the artist signed to  Warner Music Group must include the narrative of a protest music video. Therefore, it is important that I include a diverse cast that represents at least two different social groups to relate to a wide socially-conscious, 16–25, middle to upmarket demographic. Extras are also going to be used within my Music video. There will be a mixture of different ethnicities such as White/British,  Black Caribbean and African to represent the diversity in British society and make audiences aware of the many cultures and ethnic minority groups that are present. This further reflects the movement of my protest topic of 'Black Lives Matter' by showcasing a true representation of what British society looks like.

NEA Planning part 1 audience

NEA Planning Part 1 - Audience profile My Audience: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/3WJ5BSW One way my research findings have helped me to construct my music video is because it has helped me look into depth of a variety of audience expectations for music videos. For example, the research is representative of 40 people and it shows that mostly women took the survey of a 16-24 demographic. Furthermore, 90% who took survey were White or Caucasian  whilst the other 10% represented a different ethnic minority group. Therefore, it can found that the survey may have some bias.  Firstly however, when asked on what type of genre music video people liked, the most common two responses were of narrative (40%) and performative (35%) genres. The third most favoured genre was Hybrid music videos, therefore for my chosen brief I believe a hybrid music video combined of performative and narrative genres would reach a wide range audience the most efficiently as it combines the top 3 f...

NEA Planning part 2 mood board

My Mood Board The NEA brief that I have chosen is Music Videos and Online which consists of producing a three minute music video for a fictional band/artist that are signed to Warner Music Group  and  two pages of a working website   for the band/artist . At minimum the brief also requires me to include a statement of intent to summarise my music video and how the content  I  have produced is age  appropriate  to a socially  conscious  16-25 middle to upmarket demographic. Throughout my video it is important that  I  also use a range of camera shots, angles and movements, editing, use of mise-en-scene,  characters  with different genders, races and  ethnicities and a clear sense of branding across both elements of the cross-media products. The NEA brief further requires a web page to promote the band/artist, at minimum it employs that the page must include original audio or audio vis...
