NEA Planning Part 3 - Product Style Profile

In this post I am going to be looking into the importance of planning and decision making to create my online
website and music video. I will see how the use of shot lists and storyboards will help me to achieve my aims for my brief. I will then gain feedback from peers to view over my ideas and themes and see whether it is relevant to a 'protest music video'.
My media product of a 3 minute protest music video is mostly narrative based but I also hope for it to include some performative elements of dance to help assist the story. Furthermore, I hope to include all three members of the band in some way, however this may be disrupted  due to covid-19.

Shot list:

1. 0.00-0.05- I intend to make my first shot and last shot cyclical to reflect the on going fight for justice which surrounds the black lives matter movement. This shot will most likely be of the band walking to also symbolise the 'march of progress'.

2.  0.05-0.15 to use intertextual links of the Michael Jackson music video 'Black or White'. Here I will use multiple people of different races, genders, cultures alike the video to represent a diverse group of people. Tight medium close up for all these shots on a white background with intense lighting.

3. 0.15-0.20 - begin introducing the band, the setting of Hadleigh castle etc.

4. 0.20-0.30 - people holding up green screen board with protest videos inside, tight medium shot again, people dressed smartly to represent their power/authority.

5. 0.30-0.55- performance part of the dance to be included here. A variety of different angles and settings to keep image the music video visually pleasing and it stops it from becoming boring.

6. 0.55-1.15 - Here the main band will be singing along to the chorus of the song, again on a white back ground with high key lighting and at a tight medium shot.

7. 1.15-1.25- Intertextual reference of the band logo should be used here using green screen. The lyrics should also appear on screen in the band colours of black, yellow and red. Whilst the actual lighting is black and white to showcase the juxtaposition of the two but to also remind the reader of what the intent of the music video is about. This will be shot on a white background in high key lighting at a tight medium shot.

8. 1.25-1.35 - tracking shots will be used here to film the dance. Use of open setting at Hadleigh castle.

9. 1.35-2.00 - Multiple uses of tracking shots to continue filming the dance. Also important to incorporate different angles and use the castle itself to help change the look and feel of the setting. Lighting will be in daylight, hopefully during the sunrise to symbolise the ideas of a new hope.

10. 2.00-2.05 - slow motion, low angled shot off 'Cody' jumping onto 'Chay's' back playfully. This represents their relationship as positive, the audience will be able to apply this to their own personal life as they reflect on the relationships they have with friends and family.

11. 2.05-2.25 - repeated chorus - the main band will be singing along to the chorus of the song, again on a white back ground with high key lighting and at a tight medium shot.

12. 2.25-2.30 - repeated verse - Intertextual reference of the band logo should be used here using green screen. The lyrics should also appear on screen in the band colours of black, yellow and red. Whilst the actual lighting is black and white to showcase the juxtaposition of the two but to also remind the reader of what the intent of the music video is about. This will be shot on a white background in high key lighting at a tight medium shot.

13. 2.30-2.35 - Tracking shot moving upwards towards sky - The band should be seen from a long distance far away in full shot. Here their close relationships/bond should be able to be recognised on screen.

14. 2.35-2.45 - use of multiple shots here of the band to show their close bonds, represents the idea that love and friendship is stronger than hate. Sends positive message about the Black Lives Matter movement and about how people should be treated with kindness in general.

15. 2.45-2.48 - Walking tracking shot again used here of band walking the same as the start. Has a cyclical ending.

16. 2.48-2.55 - individual tracking shots of the individual band members at a medium shot. In natural lighting.

17. 2.55-3.00 - Finishes with band taking a knee and holding fist in the air. Intertextual reference to the BLM fist in support of the movement. Tracking shot, with light shining down on them.

Feedback:

Charlotte Still - The shot list you have created for your music video is very detailed and it includes a variety of settings, people, shots and different types of lighting. Furthermore, the creative use of the 'green screen' makes the video very personal to you as it showcases your own editing skills. All the shots you have envisioned have an intent behind them and therefore this helps to carry the music video along with the message you are portraying properly.

One way I would improve this is by making some of the shots you have included when shooting the band more clear. For example, when you say, "use of multiple shots here", it should be more specific in what type of shots you are going to do.

TASK 4 - PLANNING PART 2 - Individually produce photographic material or video shots you'll potential use in your products.

  • How useful did you find this step in terms of deciding what style you're going to be pursuing? - This helped me in creating a clear style and vision for how my music video would be produced. Furthermore, it will assist me to stay on schedule, and it gives me an idea of how many shots I will need to take to make a 3 minute music video.
  • How useful was peer feedback to improve your work? - Useful to an extent, as it has made me aware that I should take a few more shots and be specific about what I am intending to shoot. But on the other hand, my vision has still remained the same and I haven't received any feedback on my idea and intent of the video as a whole.

ONLINE CROSS MEDIA PRODUCT - WEBSITE

Website Link  -  https://connieschofield24.wixsite.com/wonder Intended evidence: Video element:  Below you will find examples of what I wanted to include in the video element of the website: Intertextuality : part of my intention with the home page was to include an element of intertextuality that linked to the messages of the Black Lives Matter movement for both production and online. For example, the inclusion of the BLM fist on the website promotes the support to the movement. Furthermore, the convergence of the linked page makes it easier to sign petitions and learn of the movement without having to go and research pages yourself, therefore this makes it more easily accessible for all audiences ages. However, I would have liked to have made a template of my own alike the band logo/album, but couldn't get access to the technology or help I needed to help me achieve this.  Convergence : As well as the inclusion of a linked website to...

NEA Planning part 2 mood board

My Mood Board The NEA brief that I have chosen is Music Videos and Online which consists of producing a three minute music video for a fictional band/artist that are signed to Warner Music Group  and  two pages of a working website   for the band/artist . At minimum the brief also requires me to include a statement of intent to summarise my music video and how the content  I  have produced is age  appropriate  to a socially  conscious  16-25 middle to upmarket demographic. Throughout my video it is important that  I  also use a range of camera shots, angles and movements, editing, use of mise-en-scene,  characters  with different genders, races and  ethnicities and a clear sense of branding across both elements of the cross-media products. The NEA brief further requires a web page to promote the band/artist, at minimum it employs that the page must include original audio or audio vis...

NEA Planning Part 6 - Schedule

NEA Planning Part 6 - Schedule TASK 1 -  Create a calendar that highlights your chosen production/photography/filming dates and activities.  TASK 2 - Why do you think it's important to produce a schedule of activities when working on a production? Name 3 activities you're likely to struggle with? What are you going to do in order to achieve these difficult activities?  One reason why I think it's important to produce a schedule of activities when working on a production is to make sure that you stay on time. For example, it will enable me to make sure that my coursework is handed in on time and up to the standard I would like it to be at. Another important factor of a schedule is to help plan convenient times for cast members and myself so it can be done as efficiently as possible.  One activity I am likely to struggle with is incorporating titles and graphics to my music video. This is because I hope to u...
